A special moment you enjoyed with your family

On Sunday, 24th of January, my father planned for us to visit our grandparents from my mother's side. Sadly, my father's parents are both deceased. I woke up surprisingly early at around 10am. Every Saturday I had Scouts, I had always woken up at 12pm on Sundays since last year. I did what I would normally do on weekend mornings and that is to watch cartoons. After watching television for about 1 hour, I went to brush my teeth and have a shower.

I was feeling rejuvenated after that icy cold shower I had but now, my stomach was grumbling. I went into the kitchen to see what could satisfy my tummy. Of course, the refrigerator and cupboards were bare... I had to make do with plain bread and butter that smelt funny and a glass of chocolate milk.

After a 'sumptuous' breakfast, I resumed watching television. Suddenly, my sisters sat beside me looking all nice and pretty. I had to drag myself into my room to pick out my cloths and ironing them. In approximately 10 minutes, we were in the car driving to Bedok.

When we reached our destination, the void deck had a peculiar pungent smell that is too horrific to be explained any further. When I entered my grandparents' house, I greeted my grandmother who was elated to see us. My grandfather was elated too but he was occupied with his mee rebus.

Then the routine starts with my mother chatting merrily with my grandmother and auntie about my baby sister. Then my father would watch television while lying on couch and my other sibling with nothing to do keeps bugging me to lend my PSP to them. This would go on until my grandmother decided it was time to prepare the most sumptuous food that you can't get anywhere else.

My stomach was already growling inside the car so waiting for the food was just pure torture. But somehow I endured it and the reward was great. My grandmother whipped up chilli prawns, fried vegetables and her signature dish, Chicken Soup! I was the first one to chow down on the heavenly food that my grandmother prepared even though she was having headache, backache, leg cramps, etc.

It was an enjoyable meal, a special moment that we all share. I really hope that everyone would treasure every single dining moment or family gatherings with their family members.
